Sucupira Amarela

Enterolobium schomburgkii (Benth.) Benth.

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS: yellowish-brown heartwood with darker veins; indistinct smell and taste; high density; irregular grain to reverse; slightly rough surface; attenuated fibrous appearance; medium texture.

DENSITY:

  • Bulk Density – Apparent at 15% moisture: 790 kg/m³
  • Basic: 658 kg/m³
  • Contraction – Radial: 2.8% / Tangential: 9.1% / Volumetric: 14.1%.

DRYING: It is difficult to air dry. Drying must be slow and well controlled to avoid high incidence of defects. Air drying is slow and without appreciable defects; in an oven it must be conducted with caution, preferably at low temperatures, as the drying process is very fast, with a moderate tendency to cracking and strong twisting in very aggressive drying programs.

WORKABILITY: its wood is easy to cut, generating smooth, compact, easy-to-dry sheets with a shiny surface.

DURABILITY: Sucupira wood is resistant to attack by decaying fungi and highly resistant to termites. In field trials, the monkey-ear bean wood was shown to be moderately resistant to attack by xylophagous organisms.

USES: civil construction in general, carpentry, joinery and finishing, floors, furniture, pallets, tool handles, turned parts, posts and pillars, sleepers, plywood, decorative laminates, blocks, door and window frames, beams, rafters, slats , frames for boats, hangers.
